CCF’s Swanson Lot on Curve Street

Paul Swanson recalls with great affection his rambles as a youngster growing up on his father’s farm on Curve Street. He spent adventure-filled days exploring the wilder places on the property, including a parcel on the east side of Curve Street that Paul eventually donated to the Carlisle Conservation Foundation in 1979. Swanson gave this 2.8-acre expanse of mature white pine and mixed forest in memory of a dear friend, Carol Basmajian. Today, this land is part of a neighborhood of extensive undeveloped wetlands, forest and fields protected by CCF, the Carlisle Conservation Commission, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Carlisle Wetland Protection bylaw. Nearby properties available to the public include the Swanson Land, Robbins and Hutchins Fields, Great Brook Farm State Park, and the Cranberry Bog. The Swanson Lot serves as part of an extensive wildlife corridor that preserves the integrity of Carlisle’s natural heritage.
