122 Acres of Carlisle Open Space Saved!

A Benefit to all Carlisle Residents

In one of the most important achievements in its history, the Carlisle Conservation Foundation (CCF) has been able to protect 122 acres of one of Carlisle’s largest and most valuable remaining private properties. Following over two years of negotiation with the Benfield family and their trustees, CCF has signed a comprehensive agreement that will permanently protect the key portions of this beautiful 178-acre property, located in the southwest corner of town. (Ben Benfield, long a champion of land conservation in Carlisle, was one of the original founders of CCF.) This landmark agreement was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Benfields, the countless hours of dedication and pro bono legal work donated by CCF directors Greg Peterson and Alex Parra, and significant financial support from CCF and its friends.

The Benfield property has long been designated as one of a handful of “Priority One Critical to Preserve” properties in Carlisle’s Open Space and Recreation Report. This land forms a key linkage to other wildlife and open space corridors, including the 500-acre Spring Hill Conservation area in Acton, the protected Spencer Brook Reservation and town-owned possible thanks to the generosity of the Benfields, the countless hours of dedication and pro bono legal work donated by CCF directors Greg Peterson and Alex Parra, and significant financial support from CCF and its friends.
